The story
It didn’t work. Not because the practitioners weren’t skilled, but because I was leaving my own body out of the equation.
Training with John F. Barnes — widely considered the forefather of myofascial release in the US — changed how I understood everything. Not because he gave me a new set of techniques, but because his approach asked a different question: what is the body actually trying to do? That reframe was the turning point, both for how I work with clients and for how I finally learned to work with myself.
The work
The Barnes approach is unhurried and precise. It works with sustained pressure rather than force, waiting for the tissue to release on its own terms. It sounds simple. In practice, it requires a completely different relationship with the body — one built on listening rather than fixing.
That philosophy is the foundation of everything at Continuum. Whether we’re working hands-on, exploring movement, or building your self-care practice, the orientation is always the same: your body is not the problem. It’s the guide.
Philosophy
Healing is not something done to you. It is something you learn to participate in. My job is to make that participation possible — by giving you understanding, tools, and the experience of what it feels like when your body starts to work with you instead of against you.
Fascia surrounds and runs through every structure in your body. When restricted, it creates patterns of tension and pain felt everywhere except where the restriction actually is. That’s why so many people are treated in the wrong place for years.
I’m not interested in managing your symptoms. I’m interested in helping you understand what your body is communicating and giving you tools to work with it. That takes longer at first. It lasts longer too.
